During the tenure of Dr. Femi Balogun as Director General, QS Academy experienced a period of remarkable growth, professional recognition, and strategic collaborations that significantly advanced its mission of capacity building in Quantity Surveying and allied fields. Under his leadership, the Academy undertook several high-impact trainings and certifications that enhanced the skills and credibility of professionals across both public and private sectors.
QS Academy organized two rounds of the Construction Arbitration Certification Training at the International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation, Abuja:
This initiative strengthened the role of Quantity Surveyors in dispute resolution and contract enforcement.
In March 2020, the Academy conducted a specialized training on Project Procurement and Cost Management for 45 investigators of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). This was funded by ActionAid Nigeria and marked the start of a national partnership that led to the deployment of Quantity Surveyors for monitoring constituency projects across the country. The impact of this collaboration gained media recognition through 2020–2022.
QS Academy facilitated comprehensive capacity development in PPPs by delivering APMG Certified CP3P programs at all three levels:
These globally recognized certifications empowered Nigerian professionals with international PPP project competencies.
In September 2020, the Academy trained 80 staff of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission on Monitoring and Evaluation of Capital Projects. The training emphasized the relevance of Quantity Surveyors in public fiscal accountability.
In alignment with global sustainability goals, QS Academy hosted two webinars in September and October 2021 on Green Building and the Role of the Quantity Surveyor, attracting 65 participants. This promoted environmental consciousness within the built environment sector.
QS Academy, in collaboration with PCDI, organized a high-level training in September 2022 on Needs Assessment and Costing of Development Projects. Fifty professionals were trained on cost modelling techniques using real case studies. The training introduced advanced methodologies for evidence-based budgeting in public policy.
In September 2023, the Academy delivered training on Understanding Bid Documents for PPP Projects to 23 Quantity Surveyors, further consolidating QS Academy’s footprint in PPP education.
